EXPLORING CALIFORNIA INSECTS PROGRAM
BugPeople LLC's ECI Program empowers learning communities by providing access to research on and publications about insect ecosystems in the San Francisco Bay Area and California.
Since academic year 2006-2007 BugPeople has provided professional development workshops and awarded continuing education credits through a contract with Alameda County and CalSAC (the California School Age Consortium). Beginning in academic year 2007-2008 K-12 instructors will benefit from CalSAC/BugPeople professional development. Early Childhood Educators:
BugPeople is pleased to offer science education workshops under a contract
with CalSAC and Alameda County. CalSAC provides continuing education for early childhood education instructors. BugPeople workshops emphasize California Content
Standards for both science and mathematics.

"Terror-free Terrariums"
Saturday, June 17
Bring a little piece of nature to your classroom. Terrariums are known as aids for helping to introduce children to nature and science.
Build a terrarium that you can take back to your classroom using a glass bowl, soil, plants and tiny insects.
Receive material that you can begin using right away. Learn to sit back and allow students teach themselves.
Standards-based contents covered include habitat, ecology, food chain, water cycle and needs of living things.

"Butterfly Life Cycle II"
Saturday, May 17
Students will explore the butterfly life cycle and apply math concepts
such as time, months of the year and weather; and geometric shapes including
lines, circles, triangles and
spheres.
"Classifying Life by the Numbers"
Saturday, April 12
Students will examine plastic animal models in the classroom and separate
them by color, shape and other attributes as an approach to animal
classification.
"Life Is A Masquerade"
Saturday, March 15
Students will reveal animal strategies for self defense including
mimicry and camouflage.
"Water
Penny with A Spin"
Saturday, February 9
Students will learn how pollution impacts water quality and habitats
for animals and plants. Students will examine insects that depend on water
quality for survival and learn to make inferences about water quality based
on a simple water penny experiment. "Classifying Life by the
